Scenic All Terrain Bike Ride - North Fork South Platte River + Lunch
Wednesday, September 17, 2025
About the Ride: Calling All Cyclists – This is one of the most beautiful rides I have seen in Colorado with spectacular views of the river, boulders and surrounding mountains in both directions. This non-technical route starts out on 4 miles of freshly packed county dirt road with a little gravel and continues onto smooth pavement. During our recent test ride, we also cycled about 7 miles on the pavement for a total out and back ride distance of 23 miles but faster riders may opt to ride out further. Total vertical elevation change was about 900 feet with rolling gentle climbs. The view of the ever-changing flow of the river along with amazing rock formations and greenery have made this one of my favorite locations to cycle. We will follow up the ride with lunch at Mexico Lindo, a great Mexican food restaurant located on US 285 in Conifer.
Gravel bike/tires, mountain bike or E-bikes with wide tires if the cyclist is comfortable riding on gravel. There will be some car traffic.
There is no potable water in the area so bring your drinking water (and other items you normally carry on a ride).
Restroom facilities include a pit toilet at the parking lot, a pit toilet at a small parking lot at the T intersection on the drive, and multiple pit toilets at parking locations along the Douglas County portion of the ride.
Location: Meet at the historic abandoned Platte River Hotel on the West Platte River Road (North Fork Trail Parking Lot) at 9:30 am. Wheels up at 10:00 am.
Directions: Take US 285 South past Conifer. Take the Kennedy Gulch Road exit from 285 and turn left at the first stop sign. You will drive under US 285. At the next stop sign, turn left onto South Foxton Road and continue on S. Foxton about 7-8 miles until you reach a T intersection by the river. Turn left at the T intersection onto the Platte River Road. Continue on rough pavement for about 6 miles where the road will turn to gravel. You will see the old hotel on the right and there is ample parking and a pit toilet on the left side. There is NO CELL SERVICE.
Lunch: will follow the ride in Conifer at the Mexico Lindo restaurant. Price includes lunch buffet, tax, and tip (drinks extra).
