About OHGS

OHGS Mission:

To create an environment which promotes physical and mental well-being through social engagement and outdoor activities while fostering potential lifelong friendships.

Over the Hill Gang Social (OHGS) is a community of active, outdoor-loving people age 50+. We gather in Summit County, CO for skiing, biking, hiking and social activities all year round.

OHGS is an independent 501(c)(7) club for active adults age 50 and older in Summit County. Many members first meet through Copper Mountain’s Over the Hill Gang (OHG) seasonal ski program (mee more on OHG below!), where certified guides lead small, self-selected ability groups several days a week. The OHGS social club is separate from that resort program and welcomes skiers as well as non-skiers.

OHGS' role begins when the guided ski day ends. Volunteers organize après gatherings, group social events, and member-led outings (restaurant dinners, cycling, rafting, theater visits, etc.) around Summit County. An annual Copper Mountain Cleanup and summer picnic anchor the warmer calendar. The relationship between the two organizations is distinctive: Copper operates the on-snow OHG program, which dates formally to 1978, while OHGS sustains the friendships and year-round community that grow around it.

OHGS plans and coordinates off-mountain activities for members. These include:

  • Happy Hours
  • Dinners and social events during ski season
  • Cycling outings
  • Volunteer opportunities
  • Rafting trips
  • Local theatre and shows
  • Copper Mountain Cleanup
  • Summer Picnic

These lively and fun social events are organized by the OHGS social committee led by the OHGS social director with help from engaged members. We have been known to host events at the Dillon Theater, Copper Mountain restaurants, and other local venues.

We welcome skiers and non-skiers in the OHGS Club! Please reach out with questions.

The Over the Hill Gang (OHG) was started at Copper Mountain by a trio of visionary Copper Mountain ski instructors: Father Bill Magill, Tom Stein, and Moe Mosley. While they experimented with the program during the 1976-1977 ski season, it was formally organized in 1978. It is now owned by Copper Mountain and is one of the largest and most successful senior ski programs in the country. OHG meets 4 times a week during ski season on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Copper Mountain Ski School provides certified ski instructors as Guides who lead six levels of self-selected groups of 6 to 10 skiers around the mountain.

Copper also offers specialized clinics to OHG members throughout the winter season to improve specific areas of skiing skills. OHG skis from 9am until 3pm—or whenever you are worn out. And a special lunch program is available for OHG skiers, too!
